We always know it’s the beginning of the holiday card season when a card arrives from a certain niece and nephew of my husband’s. This young woman enjoys not only making homemade cards, but also filling them with copious amounts of foil tinsel confetti in whatever form for the holiday she’s celebrating. While I can and do appreciate the effort put forth making these holiday works of art, it’s a little unnerving to have the first greeting from this couple be the confetti mess all over the floor, desk, or table. I too, found this poem very beautiful and meaningful to me, as I DO have a folder with all of the recent years’ card/letter lists, and think of each individual on that list and what they mean to me.

This Christmas card was not filled with jingling bells or laughter.
Although I’ve heard this story before, it still brings a sense of poignancy and a
reminder it’s never the wrong time to reach out in friendship.
