Episode #13 – Pickles

Welcome to our second vlog of January 2023. That means it is writing prompt day! Grab your pen and paper, laptop, or whatever you use. Are you ready?

Let’s talk pickles. That’s right. You heard correctly. Pickles.

Watch the video and listen to me talk about pickles in my family. Then, you’ll have three minutes to brainstorm by making a list.

What is your experience with pickles? Do you love them or hate them?

Are you a sweet or dill pickle person? Did you or your family make pickles as my mother did or buy them from the store?

Now that your thoughts are flowing, make a list. No pressure. Stick with one to three words per thought, and keep your pen moving. Don’t stop or edit. This is a great way to jump-start your writing.

Choose one idea from your list and use that entry to write a story about pickles in your life.

Remember, the only way to do this wrong is to not do it at all.

We’d love to see the story you come up with, so upload it in the comments section below, as an MS Word or Adobe .pdf document or copy/paste your text in the comments block.

Pickles? Is it not I a Jewish thing, Patricia? Just kidding. Love pickles. Still pickle them today. Half-sours with dill are my favorite. Not sure if you remember, but we already used this prompt. Will post my story later.

Now I’m hungry for pickles!  Thank you for this lovely prompt. I wrote this ditty: I like all pickles. I accredit this to my dad making up delectable stories about trying new foods from the time I could sit at the table with him. He liked pickles and made eating them seem like an exciting experiment. He showed me the many varieties, Sweet, Dill, Garlic, and other spices, as well as complimentary recipes and foods to pair with pickles.  A funny fact about me is that when I was pregnant with my son, Benjamin, I craved dill pickles dipped in chocolate… Read more »
