Today’s prompt is all about being brave—a word we often use to describe children but rarely apply to ourselves.
Yet, bravery shows up in so many ways: facing illness, standing up for what’s right, making big life changes, or even doing something scary because it matters.
In this prompt, I encourage you to reflect on your own acts of courage, big and small.
From childhood moments to adult choices, it’s time to acknowledge and celebrate our bravery.
First, make a list. Then pick one brave moment, and write your story. Sharing it is brave, too.
But always remember—the only way to do this wrong is not to do it at all!
Until next time, happy writing.

JFK wrote Profiles in Courage, a book that highlighted stories of personal moral courage and integrity. I have always considered moral bravery as a next level, well above physical courage. My wife, Lisa, is courageous. She became a heavy equipment operator right after the field was opened to women, and entered not only a male-dominated environment, but a macho male environment. After a blizzard closed Pennsylvania roads and the Governor declared a State of Emergency, she drove 90 miles over mountains and down highway 81, a closed highway, to report for military duty. She and a team of drivers drove… Read more »
I salute Lisa, Dave. I liked her the moment we met.
Lisa is no doubt brave in all she does, but you are equally brave. I remember a story of yours while you were in the air force, and I know your life contains many other brave moments. I think you’re just too humble to talk about them. We know.
You’re So Brave. This is a WIN I possess. In the spring of 1968, in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, I was twenty, I had two children, a two-and-a-half-year-old and a six-month-old. We lived in a house that shared a driveway with the neighbor’s house. I saw that the young next-door parents would leave for the day and return late at night. I heard a baby crying in the house next door. This went on all day and the next day as well. I knew the parents had left for the day. I went next door and knocked. But I got no… Read more »

Holly, you are an inspiration and a brave soul. Those girls owe you their lives. It’s an honor to know you.
Holly, what an incredible story. I believe you were those girls guardian angel sent to save their lives. Brave, indeed. You stepped up in a harsh situation. I would love to read the whole story as to how the girls were with you for five years. How precious they came to thank you after all those years.
You saved two lives. Humanity thanks you.
WOW! Another fantastic story. Yes, you have enough in your life to do a Series…..Holly’s Lifetime of Worlds. See you on the 21st. Lots of love, laugh and tons of Living. Jackie
Well, that was weird. I thought at first I would not think of anything…but then ten things came very rapidly, and five more before the five minutes were up. I’m looking forward to writing this story, and I’ll be thinking of you and your surgery and how brave you are!
You are so right, Connie. Patricia, you are brave to have your surgery.
