We all have quirks—some funny, some odd, and some that drive other people crazy.
They’re part of what makes us unique, and they’re a great way to bring ourselves and the people we write about to life on the page.
Take a few minutes to list your own quirks, then choose one and write a story that shows it in action.
Notice what triggers it and when, how others react, how long you’ve had it, and anything else you need to include to characterize your quirky self.

So, I made the mistake of mentioning this quirk thing to Lisa. I said, “Do I have any quirks?” Got the hairy eyeball response. Then she said, “What quirks do you think you have?” I declined to answer. But now she won’t give me her list until I give her mine. I don’t believe I have any quirks. Plenty of people I know do. Like Lisa, her quirk is that she can ignore an unexplained squeak or noise in the car when it clearly needs immediate investigation. Quirks or confessions Three come to mind immediately. 1. Drama. Drama makes me crazy. Tell me the story, one time. Tell it truthfully; be honest. Otherwise, you’re wasting my time, my life, my brain, and my energy. 2. I’m not sure where this is rooted. I think it started when I was a toddler, standing at the top of the stairs looking down into the basement. My father was cutting wood with his electric saw. What a great topic Patricia. Love it and the nifty graphic that went with your pic. I hate street and yard litter yet tolerate my in house paper piles. If I see paper in the street, plastic bottles, even palm branches, I immediately need to get rid of them. All of my clothes of the same kind are grouped in my closet. No mix/match. My kitchen sink mat must align with the top grooves in the tile. Extremely time conscious. If I’m late, please check on me. I am a K-cup coffee addict. It doesn’t matter how many boxes of K-cups I have on hand, if Publix is having a BOGO sale on K-cups, I’m all in. I don’t just get the BOGO’s though. I spread my addiction around. Aldi’s has Organic coffee cups at $5 a box. How can you pass up twelve cups for $5. Then I go to Ollies, a discount store not far from my house. I have many of the same quirks you do! Except for that “idear” thing. Uhuh. But I do have a morning routine and if it varies, I always think something terrible will happen that day. And everything has to be in its proper place or I fell off balance. Thinking back to “just”, I was absolutely amazed the first time I discovered how many times I used it. Thanks for making me think about my quirks…still working on it.
