The memoir I want to share with you this week is Heart in the Right Place by Carolyn Jourdan.
I enjoy passing on books I love, ones I know will help you improve your writing. This one definitely does that.
When teaching Heart in the Right Place in 2012, I emailed Carolyn Jourdan and asked what advice she’d give to my class members, and she provided the most helpful tips ever.
We are so excited to have released our first-ever anthology in Life Writers, Turning Points: Life’s Twists and Turns. Carolyn Jourdan experienced a major life change following her mother’s heart attack when she returned to East Tennessee to fill in for her mother as her father’s receptionist in his country medical practice.
The stories in Turning Points are equally profound. If you’d like to read the foreword, click here. Then, buy a copy of the Life Writers anthology and enjoy these stories as you consider your own turning points.

Remember always: The only way to do this wrong is to not do it at all!
Until next time, happy writing!
The cover picture is a scene unto itself. Who doesn’t like seeing a goat on the cover of a book!? I agree. What could that goat be about? The advice from Carolyn Jourdan spurred lots of ideas in my mind. Plus the reminder that it’s ok to start with the small but significantly emotional stories. Thank you!
I love that goat. You just know there is a crazy story behind it being there. Yes, she gave some great advice. I’m glad it struck home with you.
