It’s sometimes good to change where we draft our stories, but I think it’s important to have a dedicated space to write as I talk about in Eating an Elephant: Write Your Life One Bite at a Time, Bite #112.

When we have a specific location, our brains connect that spot with writing.

Consider a space that’s comfortable, but not so comfortable it puts you to sleep.

Then, surround yourself with what inspires you—books, music, quotations, photographs, etc.

My writing desk is in the living room and faces Lake Fairview. I love this bright space because I feel like I’m outside even when I’m not.

Plus, all my favorite memoirs and writing books are only an arm’s length away.
