Today, I introduce you to one of my two favorite authors–Rick Bragg and his collection of essays, Where I Come From, which we are studying this session in Life Writers.
My other favorite author is Jeannette Walls, of course, and here are links to stories I wrote about the great day I met her: A Literary Geek, Part One and A Literary Geek, Part Two.
Bragg is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who has traveled the world and lived in many different locales, but his heart has never wandered far from his homeland in Alabama. He writes extensively about the people whom he calls kinfolk and neighbors and manages to entertain by looking at the world through his unique eye.
If you’d like another helping of Rick Bragg, check out episode nine where I introduced another of Bragg’s books, Ava’s Man.
I’d love to know who some of your favorite Southern writers are and why you like them. Tell us about them in the comments section below.
And always remember, the only way to do this wrong is to not do it at all!
I like Greg Iles – modern Faulkner
I like Eudora Welty especially her short story, Why I Live at the P.O.
