Since today is the ninety-ninth episode of the Life Writers Vlog, I thought we’d explore Bite #99 in my book, Eating an Elephant: Write Your Life One Bite at a Time.
Bite #99 tackles many common mistakes writers make, such as overusing would, using numerals or words, commonly mistaken words, repeating words, and more.
We’re so close to episode one hundred. Yes, one hundred episodes since I first launched the Life Writers Vlog on November 24, 2022. Click here if you’d like to listen to that inaugural episode.
We’ve covered a lot of ground, talked about many books, taken advice from famous authors, applied many bites of Eating an Elephant, wrote in response to writing prompts, answered many listeners’ questions, and more.
Next week, we’re going to celebrate, so make sure you tune in. You might be surprised by some of what you find in our one-hundredth episode.
Until then, keep writing and avoid those pesky errors, but always remember, the only way to do this wrong is to not do it at all!
Really and ing words are my culprit.
I usually am careful to not repeat words. The word “very” is banished all together. The biggest challenge I find is to not use an English word, thinking it has the same meaning in French. ( no example comes to mind, sorry).
I have to look up Affect and Effect every time. I couldn’t bear the thought of using the wrong won.
anyway…
Remember this?
I boy and girl are at a dance. He has a wooden eye.
He walks up and nervously asks “Do you want to dance?”
She replies, “Would I, Would I,”
lol!
Great information Patricia! “Would” is a problem of mine.

You go girl! One hundred episodes. I’ll have a cupcake with a candle and maybe a balloon next Thursday while watching.
Well done, Patricia! Can’t wait for episode one hundred!
Thanks for these tips! I recently started back on my Kindle Vella story (Anna’s Journey) and joined a writing group for feedback (and to learn). Yes, I found “would” to be front and center in my work…and a 22 that should not be there. Thanks, again. I listen to all you vlogs!
