At-Home Writing Assignment

Look for a spiritual experience during the next week. It may be a conversation, an encounter with a person, something you observe, something you experience. Look for something small. Then pick one of these moments and write the story of it.

Spiritual memoir is very special and private involving the higher Self. It is difficult to write about because we tend to gravitate towards the earth shattering moments and overlook the smaller yet meaningful events. Even our word choice can be challenging at times. I was recently invited to attend a writers workshop sponsored by the Center for Black Literature, Medgar Evers College, CUNY-New York. I enjoyed watching this workshop recording. It helped me to save a writing prompt for my next brainstorm / writing session: List ah-ha moments, and moments of new awareness, understanding or insight in my life.
