Writing Emotion

Course Overview:

Welcome to the Free Three-Day Writing Challenge!

We are emotional beings. According to psychologist Robert Plutchik, humans experience as many as 34,000 unique emotions. That’s a lot of feelings!

When it comes to emotions, how do you convey them to your readers?

It’s always better to show them on the page than simply to tell the reader about them.

But how do we show emotions?

It’s not as difficult as you might think. We are going to spend this challenge training ourselves to use actions to describe feelings rather than words.

So, let’s write some emotional moments in this Free Three-Day Writing Challenge.

I’ll provide you with an emotion each day, and your job is to plumb the depths of your memory, isolate a moment or scene, and allow it to unfold on the page.

First off, introduce yourself to your fellow challengers in the comments section below, and then say hello to your writing mates.

Get a jump-start by watching the Brainstorm Your Stories by Clustering video and awaken your muse with a warm-up writing prompt. Then, get ready to write because day one of the challenge is just around the corner.

We will also make use of the Feelings Wheel, originally created by Dr. Gloria Wilcox to help her clients identify their feelings. Encourage to use this to tap into some lesser emotions. You can follow the link, download, and print a copy of it.
