April 2025 – Stillness in an Animal Encounter

0%

In this heartfelt First Tuesday Write & Read session, guest host Lezlie Laws shared her love of writing, animals, and the quiet moments that inspire powerful stories.

She opened up about the recent loss of her dog, Dash, whom she’s struggled to write about.

Lezlie also introduced Albert Einstein’s idea of combinatorial play—how ideas and experiences combine when we stay open and ask the universe for help.

She encouraged writers to explore the theme of stillness in encounters with animals, whether profound or small, like watching a jaybird drink, rescuing a lizard, or sitting with a feral cat.

Lezlie also shared a nest-cam video that showed bald eagles caring for their eaglets and her touching experience of a feral cat slowly learning to trust.

This prompt urges participants to find an animal moment that moved them and capture it with as much sensory detail as possible.

Once you’ve written your story, please share it with us in the comments section below.

But always remember, the only way to do this wrong is to not do it at all!
