Repeating the same words in the same or nearby sentences is something we avoid whenever possible, but there are times when repetition brings home a point better than any other device. We look at how Helen Fremont in After Long Silence uses repetition in a big way. We also examine her portrayal of two minor characters and see how fringe characters serve our stories.
