The grueling journey continues in chapters 22-26 of Helen Fremont’s After Long Silence, and after pages and pages of creating tension by depicting fear, hiding, impersonation, capture, torture, escape, complications, and perseverance, the author’s parents finally come together. Deep breath, relief, reunion. We feast on a few more of Fremont’s wonderful similes and examine how she calls more attention to the extraordinary by featuring the ordinary. Finally, we answer the question, “Is it a coincidence or a spiritual moment?” in several encounters described in these chapters.
