In this session, we focused on pages 182-205, “Finding Your Voice” through “Publication” of Anne Lamott’s, Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life, and used this question to guide our discussion:
Discussion question: Anne Lamott dedicates a chapter to your writing voice, that somewhat elusive aspect of writing that is difficult to define.
Voice is how the writer sounds on the page and is created by word choice, tone, personal experience, sentence structure, etc. Take a couple of minutes to think about your primary writing voice.
How would you describe your voice? How do you create that voice?
