On a whim, Richard Grant and his girlfriend moved from New York City into an old plantation home they bought in Pluto, Mississippi, and the fun began.

They both learned a new way of life, enjoyed a heavy dose of Southern hospitality, and met a cast of characters the likes of which they had never experienced.

In the prologue of Dispatches from Pluto: Lost and Found in the Mississippi Delta, Grant stated his purpose for writing, “One of my hopes in writing this book is to dissolve these clumsy old stereotypes, and illustrate my conviction that Mississippi is the best-kept secret in America.”
