Practice your read-like-a-writer skills as we reflect on chapters 3-5 of Educated by Tara Westover. In these chapters, we gain insight into Westover’s mother and father by looking at the environments in which they were raised. We also compare simile and metaphor–the differences and similarities. I’ve heard a semicolon called the love child of a colon and a comma, but how to correctly use this punctuation mark often trips people up. In this video, we examine one proper use of the semicolon. Remember to practice close reading, identify what the author is doing, and try some of her devices in your writing. Share your insights in the comments section below.
