Woohoo! Day five! You did it! Congratulations, my friend. I hope you are proud of yourself for what you’ve accomplished this week. If you’ve done a lot; that’s awesome. If you’ve done a little, that’s still awesome because it’s more than you would have likely done otherwise. At Life Writers, we celebrate all effort. Oftentimes, the result is not as important as the energy we put toward an outcome. We are proud of you. But don’t think you’re finished just yet.
We have two ways to create micro-memoir. We can deliberately write short, as we’ve been doing all week, or we can start long and trim the text to the necessary word count. What do you take out? What do you leave in? These are the questions every micro-memoir writer must address.
For today’s example, I use my parents’ love story written and rewritten for three separate purposes over ten years. The challenge when trimming longer stories is always cutting text while maintaining the primary story. Not an easy task. Watch the video, and then try your hand at it.
The maximum count for the day is 500 words and no more. Please post your word count along with your story in the comments section below.
And for the last time, draft your story, post it in the comments section below, read the work of a few of your fellow challengers, and let them know they’ve been heard. If you do so today and have posted and engaged all other days, you can declare yourself a bonified Rock Star Writer. But if you missed a day, you still have time to qualify. All stories must be posted by tomorrow, Saturday, January 15, 2022, at noon. We look forward to meeting with you on Thursday, January 27, at 6:00 p.m. for our private, group coaching session. Well done!
