Course Overview:

For the next few months in Life Writers, we will study Laura Coleman’s The Puma Years as she volunteers in a wildlife sanctuary in Bolivia. She learns a great deal about the many animals in the sanctuary, but she learns even more about herself in the process.

Coleman’s brilliant writing shows us detail and description at its best and cultivates patience in us as she practices the same with animals rescued from the illegal animal trade.

Here is the reading schedule for The Puma Years. I look forward to discussing this book with you.

If you’d like to read more about Laura Coleman and see her artwork of many of the animals in the sanctuary, follow this link: https://www.lauracoleman.co.uk/She also has a great photo gallery of many of the animals you’ll read about in The Puma Years.

Coleman is British and uses the metric system throughout her book. Here’s a link to a conversion calculator.

Coleman also did a talk on How to Write Your Memoir for The Institute of Art and Ideas. You can watch the first ten minutes for free, but then, you have to subscribe to watch the rest. It’s worth your time because you’ll hear her voice and learn the background of The Puma Years.

Please note that these lessons assume you have a copy of The Puma Years.
