In this week’s story study, we discussed the emotions conveyed in Judith Beck’s “Taste,” which was published in Brevity and uses only 168 words. Here’s our discussion question:
Beck does an amazing job communicating emotions in so few words. Identify the emotions portrayed in “Taste” and be ready to tell what she did to convey each feeling.
We identified a long list of emotions, most communicated through spoken words, facial expressions, and small actions.
These included excitement, gratitude, disgust, apprehension, pride, confusion, amazement, light-heartedness, joy, anticipation, and more.
In the few minutes we had left, members weighed in the other micro-memoirs.
We also identified our young Life Writer as Kit Dwyer, who was unhappy because she was not allowed to ride the horsey.
I enjoyed the questions and points made in this meeting. Fun to hear you all laugh at my childhood pouting photo! Thanks for the recording.
