Book Study – Pages 59-91

0%

Tonight, we discussed pages 59-91 of Solito by Javier Zamora.

Our conversation centered on the following:

We talk a lot about how to show emotion rather than telling it because it raises our writing to the next level. On pages 71-73, we have a great example of Zamora showing emotion when he boards the bus in Tecun Uman, Guatemala, and leaves his grandfather behind. What is the author doing to create this emotion? Point to examples in the text.

We examined how Zamora showed emotion in this poignant scene of saying goodbye to his grandfather by looking at:

  • what Javier saw
  • what Javier heard
  • what Javier physically felt
  • what Javier did

I created a shared document of terms and people in Solito. When you come across a new Spanish word or a person, select the correct tab at the bottom left of the sheet and enter the name/word, definition, and page where it appears.

Please do not delete any of the content currently in there. Again, here is a link to the shared spreadsheet. It can also be found in the course, Terms and People in Solito.
