We had a great discussion about Rick Bragg’s essay, “The Sweetest Sound,” as we shared thoughts on adding sound to stories.

Our discussion question for the week:

Sound is one of our senses, but it is often neglected in our writing. How does Rick Bragg use and portray sound in “The Sweetest Sound”? What meaning does he give to the sound he details? How might you add sound to your stories?

We don’t find out until three and a half pages into the essay that Bragg’s sweetest sound is a hound dog baying. If you don’t know what this sounds like, go to the ten-second mark in this video.
