We’ve spent four months reading and studying Rick Bragg’s Where I Come From, and it’s been quite a ride.
Many people loved his writing and stories, laughed out loud and even shed a tear or two. Others, not so much. Regardless of what you thought of Bragg’s content, I hoped you read long enough to learn from the great writer he is.
In this, our last book study on Where I Come From, we talked about devices Bragg used repeatedly. The assignment was to flip through the book and find at least three writing devices he uses. Identify the device and give us an example where it can be found.
Watch the video to hear more about Bragg’s use of repetition/parallel structure, specificity, setting off speeches, dialogue, scene, short punchy sentences, humor, letter format, and more.
