In this, our first book study of Where I Come From by Rick Bragg, we discussed pages 18-32 and Bragg’s encounters with cancelled flights, heat monsters, Atlantic traffic, New Orleans heat, red wasps, ice fishing, and fire ants.
Members called attention to his word choices, similes, specificity, and other qualities of his writing.
Then, we centered our discussion on the following topic:
Bragg’s stories in this section of text run between 500 and 750 words each. What does Bragg do to tell so much of a story in so few words?
