Legend has it that author Ernest Hemingway was once asked how many words would it take him to write his story.
His response, in typical Hemingway fashion, he could do it in six words. “For sale: Baby shoes, never worn.”
Who knows if that’s true, but in 2006, Larry Smith, SMITH Magazine founder, took the concept of a six-word memoir and made it famous.
Since then, more than 1.5 million people have described their lives in exactly six words and posted them on SixWordMemoirs.com.
That’s my challenge for you–write one six-word memoir every day for the month of July and post it in the comments section below.
It can be about any aspect of your life, but it must be exactly six words, no more, no less, and all words count, even the little ones.
Tell us about your day, memories, thoughts, pains, joys, etc. Make them funny or serious. Write what you want to say, but do it using only six words.

So, are you up for the six-word memoir challenge? I bet you are. Write your first one and post it in the comments section below.
Here are some of my favorites from SMITH‘s first book, Not Quite What I Was Planning:
“Seventy years, few tears, hairy ears.”
“Followed rules, not dreams. Never again.”
“Afraid of everything, did it anyway.”
“I wrote it all down somewhere.”
“Cursed with cancer; blessed with friends.”
“Wasn’t born a redhead. Fixed that.”
“I still make coffee for two.”
I wrote a few of my own this morning.

Solitude is a writer’ s best friend.
I saw a phrase in a song lyric that I really like “Silent lucidity” There’s a place I like to hide A doorway that I run through in the night Relax child, you were there But only didn’t realize and you were scared It’s a place where you will learn To face your fears, retrace the years And ride the whims of your mind Commanding in another world Suddenly you hear and see this magic new dimension I will be watching over you (I) am gonna help you see it through (I) will protect you in the night (I) am… Read more »

Actually, vodka is. Since I can’t drink any more, I’ll have to settle for solitude.
Vodka is the best when frozen. (Six words)

Sheep does not take an s at the end, I noticed it once posted. Language barrier legitimate error I suppose!
