Bird by Bird – Pages i-xxxii

0%

Welcome to the first book study of Anne Lamott’s classic, Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life.

Tonight, we focused on the introduction, pages i-xxxii, and used this question to guide our discussion:

A book’s introduction is a promise the author makes to the reader, but it usually includes much more than that. What other purposes do you see Lamott accomplishing in her introduction? Why do you think she included this information? Be specific with your answers and point to passages that support your thoughts.

We also talked about the use of that in Bird by Bird, the difference between an introduction, foreword, and preface, and how the copyright page can give you an idea of how many copies of a book are in circulation.
