Bird by Bird – Pages 52-102

Tonight, we focused on pages 52-102 of of Anne Lamott’s, Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life, and used this question to guide our discussion:

Lamott dedicates two chapters in this section of assigned text to an aspect of writing we don’t often discuss—plot. Plot is the sequence of events in a story, how the story develops and moves through time. Many of our life stories tend to be character- or event-driven, not plot-driven, but focusing more on plot can greatly enhance our stories. What did you learn about plot in these chapters? How can you apply this new knowledge to your writing?

We had interesting comments on our topic but also great discussions on inspiration and applying what Lamott says about writing fiction to our work.
