When it comes to editing, just reading over your story a few times doesn’t cut it. You need a system to check your stories that you do each and every time you edit, and that starts with an editing checklist.
For our book discussion, please identify what stood out to you in the prologue and the first chapter of Dispatches from Pluto by Richard Grant. Be specific, and tell us why that phrase/sentence/paragraph caught your attention.
Here are a couple of other questions to start the conversation:
- What does Grant accomplish in the prologue? How does he accomplish this?
- Dispatches from Pluto is a place- and character-driven memoir. In the prologue and first chapter, what person stands out to you? Why? What does Grant do to create such a character?

I was not available to be at this Zoom meeting in person. The replay video was very helpful. Thank you, Patricia and writing friends.
