Member Story Review – March 2024

0%

On the second Tuesday of each month, we choose one member’s story for feedback from the Life Writers community.

Tonight, we reviewed Norma Beasley’s profile of a good friend in “Africana Connoisseur.”

We also reviewed a few story notes about grammar, punctuation, and other ways to improve our writing.

View the story notes for this session here.

A couple of questions came up about abbreviating sergeant and sister before a person’s name.

Sergeant should be abbreviated as Sgt. before a military man or woman’s name.

Norma’s friend’s sacred space

The Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) says Sr. can be used for Sister “where space is tight.” But, it would not be incorrect to spell out Sister as in Sister Mary Catherine, especially if it clarifies the nun’s role.

Here’s a link to CMOS should you wish to learn about subscribing to the online version or purchasing a printed copy.

The Member Story Review is a great way to improve your writing and editing skills and learn how to give constructive feedback to your fellow members.

Take advantage of this great opportunity and upload your story here for review in a future Member Story Review session.
