Tonight’s writing prompt encourages us to think about the local places we’ve always meant to visit but haven’t yet.
Inspired by Jay Shetty’s Daily Jay on the Calm app, the prompt asks us to imagine we’re moving in thirty days. What nearby spots would we finally make time to see?
Many of us have a list of local adventures we keep putting off, whether it’s exploring a nearby park, trying a quirky attraction, or visiting a place special to someone we love.
First, begin by brainstorming—write quick, simple phrases of places we want to visit, and do it without overthinking.
Then, choose one or more desired places and write a focused story about why you want to go, what draws you there, what you hope to experience, and what’s stopped you so far.
By narrowing our focus and writing from a limited perspective, we create stories that are more meaningful, specific, and engaging to both write and read.
But always remember, the only way to do this wrong is to not do it at all! Until next month, happy writing, everybody.

My June first Tuesday story
Washington DC isn’t exactly in my backyard, but it’s a lot closer since I moved to Williamsburg, so I felt this was fair. I’ve visited the Folger Shakespeare Library, the Smithsonian, the Air and Space Museum, and other Washington landmarks, and I’ve loved them all, but there’s one place in our capital I’ve never yet seen.
This is a story about my friend, Nancy and me.
Nancy, great revision. I felt your enthusiasm for hiking throughout this story.
My apologies. I kept attaching the wrong file.
This is a beautiful, tender tribute. Thank you for letting us see our lovely Lady through your eyes.
You are so welcome, my friend! I am looking forward to read what you came up with.
I love how you tell the story from the point of view of looking outward toward the ocean, from your homeland. You expressed gratitude throughout this story, for you and many other immigrants who were welcomed by the Statue of Liberty.
Thank you, Nancy.
Sorry. Here is the version I wanted to share.
Sharing my expanded story from yesterday. Enjoy!
I’m attaching the transcript of my story from Tuesday night. I changed nothing during the transcription. So, there’s allotta changes coming in the first edit. The story is also unfinished. Eventually I’ll get to sitting at the bar during my last four Wednesdays before I leave TV. I hope that’s a long time from now. I may just skip the Write-In next Wednesday and give WOB a try. Maybe I can finish the piece at the bar.
Same as Nancy, John. Please keep us updated.
I am looking forward to the rest of the story.
